First off, I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to write in a vote for THE FOURTH MONKEY! With over 900,000 books published so far this year, making the short list of top 20 Thriller/Mysteries is no easy feat, and not one I could accomplish without your help. I am truly grateful. Thank you.

Who’s ready for round two?

This is where things get interesting. We’re up against some big names – J.D. Robb, John Sandford, Dan Brown, Paula Hawkins… but I think we can beat them. Each one has a corporate marketing machine standing behind him/her; deep pockets and large staffs that will spend more $ than most small countries in an attempt to capture your vote. They’re probably dropping hardcovers from airplanes right now, booking appearances on the Today Show, going door-to-door, picking up television ads and buying every inch of space in all the magazines. Somewhere, a baby was just born and a representative from one of the big five publishers probably stood over that child with an iPad and a fresh GoodReads account in an attempt to capture that newly minted vote.

I can’t do that.
I can’t do any of that.
I’m the new guy on the block and I don’t have the budget.

The GoodReads Choice Awards 2017 and THE FOURTH MONKEY by J.D. Barker #4MK

I’ll be the first to admit, it’s a little early. GoodReads typically doesn’t open the voting process until November but hey, with a Baby Barker on the way in September, who knows when I’ll get another chance to talk about this. THE FOURTH MONKEY is kicking some butt. Development of the TV show over at CBS is in full swing. The sequel, THE FIFTH TO DIE, has been scheduled for release next year. I’ve started the final book in the series, titled…

…well, maybe I’ll keep that under wraps for now.

What are the GoodReads Choice Awards?

It’s the only major award decided solely by readers, organized by THE site for readers. Last year marked the largest contest to date with more than two million votes cast in 20 different categories including fiction, mystery & thriller, fantasy, horror, humor, YA… all that is required to vote is to be registered as a member of the GoodReads network. If you still aren’t a part of this flourishing community of people who love reading and discovering new books, the GoodReads Choice Awards is the best reason to join!
