In the early hours of June 4, J.D. Barker and family watched as the last of their possessions were loaded into a moving truck and with one of their vehicles in tow, they began the ten-hour drive to their new home located on the island of New Castle off the New Hampshire coast near Portsmouth.
“We’ve had our eyes on New Castle for a few years now and when our agent called to tell us this particular property was available, we jumped on it. The island is absolutely picturesque. Barker’s use of Patreon won’t be limited to exclusive content. He also plans to use the site to help aspiring authors find a path to publication. “I regularly get contacted by authors asking for advice and guidance, I’m hoping I can use Patreon to organize an effort to help as many of them as possible. Barker is no stranger to helping fellow authors. Prior to publishing his first novel in 2014, he spent more than two decades working as a ghost writer and book doctor – a period he credits for teaching him what works and what doesn’t in today’s mass-market fiction.
